El trabajo de Karla Leyva gira en torno a las diversas formas en que el cuerpo articula nuestra identidad y sus relaciones con el poder. En los últimos años, su producción se ha centrado en la industria de la belleza y el bienestar y su intersección con lo postorgánico, concepto que se refiere a la hibridación entre lo orgánico y lo inorgánico en el cuerpo humano y la naturaleza, a través de la ciencia y la tecnología.
En su trabajo está implícito el deseo por expandir el cuerpo más allá de la carne, el deseo por dejar la periferia, por ser visto, tocado, palpado, por ser consumido pero al mismo tiempo por ser desechado; además están implícitas ciertas obsesiones contemporáneas nacidas de la imperante cultura visual, como el culto al cuerpo, a la salud, a la juventud y la belleza.
Mediante una variedad de soportes - video, fotografía, pintura, escultura -, Leyva traza una línea de pensamiento que analiza la fantasía alrededor de los cuerpos colonizados por la imagen y las consecuencias de las crecientes prácticas digitales en el comportamiento y la anatomía del ser humano.
Leyva ha sido miembro del Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte (SNCA) y del Estímulo Fiscal a la Creación Artística (EFCA); además ha recibido premios por parte de instituciones nacionales como La Bienal Femsa, FONCA, CONARTE, e internacionales, como Fundación Botín, Visionados PhotoEspaña, entre otros. Ha mostrado su trabajo en Pereira Colombia, Los Ángeles, Portland, Londres, París y México, donde radica actualmente.

Karla Leyva's work revolves around the ways in which our bodies articulate our identity and its relationships with power. In recent years, her production has focused on the beauty and wellness industry and its intersection with the post-organic, a concept that refers to the hybridization between organic and inorganic in human body and nature, through science and technology.
Implicit in her work is the desire to expand the body beyond the flesh, the desire to leave the periphery, to be seen, touched, felt, to be consumed but at the same time to be discarded; also, certain contemporary obsessions born from the prevailing visual culture, such as the cult of body, health, youth and beauty.
Through a variety of supports - video, photography, painting, sculpture -, Leyva traces a line of thought analyzing the fantasy around colonized bodies through the increasing digital practices and its consequences on human behavior and their anatomy.
Leyva has been a member of National System of Art Creators (SNCA) and has also received awards from national institutions such as Femsa Biennal, FONCA, CONARTE; and international ones, such as Botin Foundation and PhotoEspaña, among others. She has shown her work in Pereira Colombia, Los Angeles, Portland, London, Paris and Mexico, where she currently lives.
